The Ancients

The mystical Jewish teachings of the Kabbalah tell the story of a vessel containing all the light of Creation that shatters into an infinite number of pieces. We are left, each of us like a hologram, little Humpty Dumptys, containing all the light of Creation, trying to put the pieces of our lives back together again. I was introduced to Kabbalah through Gahl Sasson’s book, A Wish Can Change Your Life. It seemed to jump off my bookshelf where it had lived for about 20 years unread, old and yellowed. At the same time I’d found my way to ceramics and was making vessels that looked like they’d been buried for centuries in Lower Mesopotamia and been recently excavated on a dig. Vessels…Kabbalah…digging out of personal trauma…treasure and discovery.
